A grandparent from Islington has been shortlisted for a Grandparent of the Year award. Susan Bevan, 59 years old, who lives at Anchor’s Queen Elizabeth Court in Dove Road, was nominated by Kayleigh Dolan, Scheme Manager, for always putting her family first.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Susan Bevan,  who has lived at Queen Elizabeth Court for two years, is honoured to be nominated for the Grandparent of the Year Award. She said: “You get to a certain age and think nobody really notices you, or what you do. It’s great that I can be a support to my daughter and a positive role-model to my granddaughter. I am very moved that my Scheme Manager has put my name forward. Good luck to everyone who has been nominated!”

Kayleigh Dolan, Queen Elizabeth Scheme Manager, who nominated Susan Bevan for her devotion to the family, said: “It is an absolute pleasure to watch how Sue nurtures and takes care of her granddaughter. They both brighten up the scheme and bring smiles to everyone’s faces.”

A customer panel has come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
