Highmoor Court retirement housing scheme is working with the local community and Newcastle City Council Arts Development Team help improve road safety in the area.
Ahead of improvements to Cowgate roundabout, local residents are working with artist Karen Rann to explore a range of new ways to prevent motorists cutting through residential streets during the period of road works.
Local residents regularly meet in the communal lounge at Highmoor Court to hold creative sessions with Karen as part of a programme of arts development in the local area.
Together they have been creating bright and colourful artworks including life-size “children” cut outs to raise awareness among motorists of the dangers they pose to children playing or walking to school nearby and encourage them to slow down.
Highmoor Court has strong relationships within the community and local residents are invited to contact manager Sarah Brent for further information about how to get involved with the range of art programme taking place.
