Staff at Anchor’s Greenhive care home in Peckham were celebrating this week after being classed as outstanding by regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – the first awarded in London.
Greenhive care home which cares for forty eight residents, was praised by the CQC in the first wave of robust inspections announced in October 2014. Care homes are now classed as either outstanding, good, requiring improvement or inadequate.
Greenhive Manager Connie Oppong said everyone at the home was thrilled because they had worked so hard to maintain high standards of care.
She said: “We all know Greenhive is a great care home but to be given such praise from the regulator is outstanding in itself!
“We are proud of the care we provide, of the meals which are made from fresh seasonal ingredients and of the wide variety of meaningful activities enjoyed by our residents.
“Anchor has informed the Government’s dementia strategy so we also know how to care for people living with the condition so they lead as fulfilling a life as possible.
“We welcome such rigorous inspections and clear ratings so older people and their families can see which care homes are the best in the country. We’re so pleased to be classed as an outstanding care home that we’re holding a party to celebrate this success.”
The CQC inspection report, which can be found on the regulator’s website, highlighted the following examples of high standards of care at Greenhive outstanding care:
• “Staff are very caring, very smiley and they can’t do enough for Mum”
• “Staff know the residents well and I am always impressed by that”
• “Residents are treated with respect and dignity”
• “Staff are familiar with people’s preferred names”
Resident Ms Lillian Smith, 77 who has lived at Greenhive for 10 years, said: “It was no surprise to me that Greenhive is classed as outstanding. I love living here because it is very homely, we have friendly staff, good food and a caring environment.”
This week Greenhive is also proud to announce another outstanding result in the Your Care Rating survey which is the country’s largest and most authoritative survey of residents living in care homes conducted by Ipsos MORI.
Anchor residents were amongst 21,300 residents in 1,034 care homes across the UK that took part in the Your Care Rating survey which provides residents with the opportunity to feedback on the services provided in their care homes. Greenhive’s score was 888 out of 1,000 which was 16 points above the national average of 872.
Anchor is proud to have joined the Your Care Rating survey - the country’s largest and most authoritative survey of care home residents and we are particularly proud that Anchor’s results are above average and the survey demonstrates older people are happy living with us
Jo Bown, Anchor’s Community Partnership Manager for London and East said: “The results clearly highlight that our Greenhive residents are benefiting from high quality, person-centred care from dedicated staff. We still want to get even better and the results give us crucial feedback on where we can build on our achievements.”
