Staff from a care home in Peckham have praised their manager after she announced her retirement having worked there for 15 years.
Connie Oppong MBE, has been the manager at Anchor’s Greenhive care home in Brayards Road since the home opened in 2002.
Southwark’s Mayor Councillor Kath Whittam and Anchor’s Chief Executive Jane Ashcroft CBE will be the guests of honour at a special party on Thursday (30 March) to mark Connie’s retirement.
Before managing the home, Connie worked for Southwark adult social care services for 35 years. She became an MBE in 2009 for her long service and commitment to adult social care in the Southwark borough.
It was under Connie’s leadership that Greenhive became the first care home in London to be rated outstanding in 2015 by regulator The Care Quality Commission.
Jane Ashcroft CBE, Anchor's CEO said: "Only an outstanding manager can run London's first outstanding care home. We are committed to delivering Connie's legacy at Greenhive and our other care homes."
Greenhive’s Deputy Manager Edna Rafferty said: “Connie has been the home’s first and only manager since it opened. She is an excellent home manager because she cares for older people with passion, dignity and attention to detail.
“Her legacy is encouraging us all to provide top quality care and treat each resident as an individual. She has been recognised for her commitment, not just by the Queen, but by winning many other awards. We will miss her greatly."
Connie won the Caring Times home manager of the year care award in 2005 and in 2013, Connie was a runner up for the Home Manager category in the now Great Britain Care Award.
She has inspired her team so much that all the staff at the home won the Best Team Award in the London heat of Great Britain Care Awards in November 2016.
Connie said: “During my 15 years working here, I have been privileged to work with some amazing residents, from whom I have learnt so much. I have equally been supported in managing the service by a very dedicated staff team. I am very proud of all that Greenhive has achieved; it was been a fantastic journey that I will look back on fondly in the years to come.”
