Mrs Winifred Williams, a resident at Anchor’s Greenhive care home in Southwark, celebrated her 104th birthday at a party with friends and family on 3rd August.

The special occasion was celebrated with Winnie’s favourite entertainer and a visit and toast by the Mayor of Southwark and Mayoress.

The Mayor said: “It is an honour to be here once more to celebrate Winnie’s 104th birthday. I am always happy to support activities in the community and am privileged to be part of this momentous milestone.

“I also want to thank all the staff here at Greenhive who are very welcoming, please keep up the good work. People talk about negativity in care homes but I was also here in June celebrating National Care Home Open Day and know there is a really positive atmosphere in Greenhive.”

Connie Oppong, Greenhive Care Home Manager commented: “Winnie is a popular and well-loved lady who has lived through two World Wars and had a very interesting life.

“Winnie has lived here at Greenhive since the home opened in 2002 and was instrumental in choosing the name.

“Everyone at Greenhive wanted to celebrate this special birthday with Winnie. She has had a lovely day spending time with her closest friends, singing along to the old songs and enjoying a drink and some birthday cake.

Happy birthday Winnie!
