A pensioner from Cleethorpes has been shortlisted for a gardening award. Graham Renison, who lives at Anchor’s Church Court in Blundell Avenue, was nominated by five neighbours for his hard work in the communal gardens.
Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.
Graham Renison, who has lived at Church Court for five years, is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Green Fingered Customer Award. He said: “I am over the moon to be up for this award. I love gardening as it keeps me fit, and it’s great to see others getting enjoyment from our communal gardens.”
Alijda Fletcher, who appreciates Graham’s work in the gardens, said: “Graham can be seen every day come rain or shine, working to keep the gardens at their beautiful best for all of us at Church Court to enjoy.
“His efforts have been recognised by Cleethorpes in Bloom, where the gardens have won awards for the past three years – not including this year when they received the coveted Gold Award.”
Another neighbour, Angela Winterburn, added: “We are so proud of Graham. What a pleasure it is to sit outside! Our garden is first class.”
A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
