A tenant from Headington has been shortlisted for a gardening award. Dennis Faulkner, 74 years old, who lives at Anchor’s St Francis Court in Hollow Way, was nominated by Kim Griffin, Scheme Manager, for his hard work in the communal gardens.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Dennis Faulkner, who has lived at St Francis Court for the past 11 years, is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Green Fingered Customer Award. He said: “I have had great pleasure in looking after a large part of the garden. Last year, my eldest daughter bought me a small greenhouse which I grow plants from seeds and cuttings. I hope that all tenants and visitors get as much pleasure as my wife and I do from looking and walking around the garden.”

Kim Griffin, who appreciates Dennis’ work in the gardens, said: “He just loves gardening and receives so much pleasure knowing that the beautiful displays are shared with everyone. I nominated Mr Faulkner for his hard work and commitment, in keeping not only the grounds beautiful, but also keeping many tenants and visitors enchanted with the scenery.”

A customer panel have come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
