A Basildon grandmother has been shortlisted for a gardening award and a ‘best neighbour’ award. Tina Park, who lives at Anchor’s Knights Court in Chesterford Green, was nominated by neighbours for helping others and tending the gardens.
Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.
Mrs Park is thrilled to be shortlisted for the awards. She said: “I am over the moon to be nominated. It is so important to have good neighbours. I love gardening as it keeps me fit, and it’s great to see others getting enjoyment from our gardens.”
Neighbour Mrs Skidhore said: “Tina is kind to all the residents, but what’s so nice about her is she does the Knights Court entrance up with lovely flower pots and hanging baskets. She also grows herbs, fruits and vegetables which she shares with all of us and makes into jams and chutneys.
“She thinks of everyone else here before herself - when someone is ill, she cooks for them, and she is always helping people with shopping or walking the dog for them. Tina is a brilliant neighbour. Everyone likes her because she is so very nice.”
Michael Weedon, Anchor’s housing scheme manager, added: “Tina is a great tenant to have, a good neighbour and a friend to all. She always makes time for others and nothing is too much trouble for her. Tina definitely deserves an award.”
A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
