Grandparents from Enfield have been shortlisted for a Grandparent of the Year award. Jim and Joyce Cowup, 83 and 84 years old, who live at Anchor’s Anchor Court in Village Road, was nominated by fellow residents for keeping their old fashioned east end family values alive.
Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.
Jim and Joyce Cowup, who have lived at Anchor Court for 13 years, are thrilled to be shortlisted for the Grandparent of the Year Award. They said: “We are honoured to be thought of in this way – there are lots of good grandparents within our scheme.”
Martin Flowerdew, Anchor Court Scheme Manager, who nominated Jim and Joyce Cowup for their devotion to the family, said: “Their entire family always come together for regular catch-ups in our lounge. They have six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and always ensure that they still get the old-fashioned custom of pocket money. The family really care for Jim and Joyce. I would want to aspire to being a grandparent just like them!”
A customer panel has come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
