A grandparent from Gainsborough has been shortlisted for a Grandparent of the Year award. June Dannatt, 83 years old, who lives at Anchor’s Whittons Mill in Bridge Street, was nominated by her granddaughter, Francesca Newman, for always helping her family.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

June Dannatt, who has lived at Whittons Mill for three years, is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Grandparent of the Year Award. She said: “My granddaughter has always been there whenever I have needed anything. It is nice to know that she appreciates what I have done for her.”

Francesca Newman who nominated her grandmother, said: “My wonderful Nan always remembers the 20 family birthdays, making sure everybody gets a nice card and present whenever we visit. She always welcomes us with the biggest smile and a cake (or biscuits). She really is the best person.”

A customer panel has come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
