A grandparent from Leeds has been shortlisted for a Grandparent of the Year award. Pat Brookes, 77 years old, who lives at Anchor’s Bentley Court in Meanwood Valley Green, was nominated by Nicola Pepper, Scheme Manager, for always putting her family first.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Pat Brookes, who has lived at Bentley Court for two years, is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Grandparent of the Year Award. She said: “I’m very surprised to be nominated and think it’s fantastic. I feel very humble about the nomination. Everyone here at Bentley Court makes my granddaughter feel very welcome. I’m pleased she can bring as much happiness to other people as she does to me.”

Nicola Pepper, who nominated Pat Brooks for her devotion to the family, said: “Pat looks after her granddaughter every week. She’s only four but is a pleasure to have her around our scheme.”

A customer panel has come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
