A grandparent from Failsworth has been shortlisted for a Grandparent of the Year award. Ann Taylor, who lives at Anchor’s Earls Lodge in Albert Street West, was nominated by her granddaughter for always putting family first.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Ann is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Grandparent of the Year Award. She said: “I am over the moon to be up for this award. I love my family; they keep me young. It gives me great pleasure when I can help them out and see smiles on their faces.”

Frankie Williams, 10, who nominated her grandmother for the award, said: “My fabulous nanna is the most loving, kind, generous nanna you could ask for. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect grandparent.

“Me and my sister Alyx come to see her at Earls Lodge every week. She takes us to the beach and the fair, and buys us gifts all the time. Our granddad passed away years ago and she is very brave to look after all of us on her own.”

A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
