A cat from Oldham has been shortlisted for a Best Pet award. Felix, 14, who lives at Anchor’s Millfield care home in Waterhead, was nominated by residents and staff for being a faithful furry friend.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Ann Marie Widdowson, who works at Millfield, said: “Felix came to live here with her owner many years ago. When her owner passed away, she stayed at Millfield, giving great joy and comfort to other residents.

“Our very dear Felix makes our home a home. She has given some residents real purpose in life, tending to her needs for food, water, grooming etc. This is also great for promoting happy memories and relieving stress.”

Home manager Sharon Croucher added: “We are over the moon that Felix is a finalist – she certainly brings happy living to residents and staff at Millfield, so it would make us very proud to win.”

A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
