Eastlake care home in Godalming are proud to sponsor a local football team: the Milford and Witley Veterans football team.
The sponsorship was the brainchild of the Care Manager at Eastlake care home in Surrey, Michael Beswick.
Michael, who has been part of Milford and Witley football club for the past 28 years as a player, manager and committee person, was keen to get older players back into the sport and after launching a veterans team, began looking into ways to raise awareness.
Michael said: “Milford and Witley football club is well established in the local area and over the years we’ve had numerous Saturday teams as well as ladies team.
“Football is a great sport for keeping fit, offering camaraderie and a fun social side, but as people get older their lives can get busier, leaving less time for hobbies and sports.
“Myself and another player decided to try and get some of the older players back into the club and playing football again, and so launched the Milford and Witley Vets football team.
“I have been working at Eastlake for almost as long as I’ve been part of the club (27 years) and thought Anchor, who run Eastlake care home, make natural sponsors for our veterans’ team.”
To play qualify for a veteran team, players must be over 35. The team, who play their home games at Burton Pavilion, Milford Heath, have regular players ranging from 39 – 48, with another six players making occasional appearance who’s ages range from 54 – 68.
“The Vets have just had a very successful season. We play in the Farnham and District Sunday league which we won this May seeing is promoted from Division 3 to Division 2. We are very proud to have Anchor’s logo on our kit and hope to start the upcoming season just as strong as we finished the last.”
