An array of creepy crawlies and exotic creates have visited the staff and residents at Anchor’s St Anne’s care home in Saltash this week.

Kellogs the corn snake and Shelley the giant cockroach were among the creatures visiting the home with their handlers from Dartmoor Zoo.

The animals were given a warm welcome by residents who got the chance to touch and hold them.

Resident Audrey Masztalerz said: “I really enjoyed holding a corn snake for the first time in my life. It was interesting seeing the different animals.”

Ovvie Usher and care home Manager Neil McCalley said the Dartmoor Zoo visit was part of St Anne’s ongoing programme of interesting activities.

Neil said: “The home has always made an effort to integrate animals as much as possible after finding that residents and staff alike really enjoy their visits.

“We find that some of our residents really light up when animals come to visit; animals are an important part of people’s lives.”
