A guinea pig from Middlesbrough has been shortlisted for a Best Pet award.

3-year-old Shetland breed Daisy, who lives at Anchor’s Acklam Court on Acklam Road, was nominated by Lynne Fisher for being a faithful furry friend.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Daisy’s owner Lynne Fisher said: “I am over the moon that Daisy is up for this award. She certainly brings happy living to me and my neighbours at Acklam Court so it would make me very proud if she were to win.

“Daisy is my best friend, a great comfort and emotional support. She loves a cuddle – she snuggles into my neck and is very affectionate and loving. We have a very close bond and I love her very much, my beautiful little girl.”

A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
