Tenants at Fontburn Court in North Shields enjoyed an early Christmas lunch on Friday 18th December.
Scheme manager John Cusack, along with staff and former colleagues, managed to coordinate cooking upwards of 35 meals for all present, including starters, Turkey with all the trimmings and an alternative option for vegetarians. Christmas pudding or individual homemade trifles were served for dessert which went down a treat.
“It was hard work co-ordinating the cooking times and getting everything served quickly, but I had a bit of help from various members of staff and ex staff who came in on their days off” said John. “So a big thank you to Anne Robson and Kerry Goicochea from AgeUK/Everyday, Billy Ankers our steadfast Responsive Repairs Manager, Trisha Watson our Cleaner, Eileen Harkus, Shirley Clarke and her family. Your hard work was much appreciated by me, and all of our Customers said that they really enjoyed themselves; not just the food but also the company.”
A second lunch was made on Christmas Day for the tenants at Fortburn Court who stayed at in scheme over the festive period. This is the 15th year of cooking an earlier Christmas meal for everyone at the scheme, and although there is a lot of hard work and planning involved, it is made worthwhile about when all the tenants are able to come together and enjoy the lovely, home-cooked food.
