10 Dec 2013
On the 5 December our Deputy Major, children from Kings Copse School and Wellstead School joined Dawson Lodge in Southampton for their first Christmas event ‘The big light switch on’.
Our event went off with a great start, firstly the children presented their Christmas decorations to all the residents for them to judge, the winner was to receive top placement on our Christmas tree and a selection box. We had three judges two which were our residents and one was our volunteer Tina.
The competition proved to be a difficult one as all the decorations were so beautifully made. The children from both schools came together to decorate our Christmas tree while the residents sang for the children, then the children took turns between their schools to sing to the residents, they seemed to really enjoy listening to the little ones sing.
The Deputy Major was introduced to switch on the lights. Our volunteer and Emily from the Agaes cricket ground were presented with a small gift to say thank you from all of us at Dawson Lodge for all their hard work and dedication they give to us.
Just when everyone thought the afternoon was coming to a close our every special guests arrived – Arthur the reindeer and his friend Don the Donkey. The children and residents were so excited and thrilled to see a real reindeer, as some of our residents didn’t want to go outside the reindeer came in to greet them.
To finish our spectacular afternoon we had tea, coffee and delicious homemade mince pies from our lovely chef verity.
