A grandparent from Chippenham has been shortlisted for a Grandparent of the Year award. Vera Cleverley, 90 years old, who lives at Anchor’s Ivyfield Court in Charter Road, was nominated by Sue Howe, Estate Manager, for always putting her family first.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Vera Cleverley, who has lived at Ivyfield Court for four years, is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Grandparent of the Year Award. She said: “I am shocked that I have been nominated. I am sure there are better great-grandmas than me out there but it is a wonderful surprise.”

Sue Howe, who nominated Vera Cleverley for her devotion to the family, said: “She is a great role model. To help her granddaughter, Vera is always having her great grandchildren around. They have a fantastic time baking and playing.”

A customer panel has come together to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in January 2017.
