TV presenter and gardening expert Charlie Dimmock has officially opened the doors of Mayflower Court care home, joined by the Mayor of Southampton Cllr Linda Norris.
Charlie Dimmock met almost 200 influential members of the local community for a special launch event last week (Thursday 10 September), ahead of the first residents being welcomed to the 72-bed care home on Westwood Road on 21 September.
The famed gardener and Southampton local enjoyed a guided tour with Mayor Linda Norris, before raising a glass to Mayflower Court and cutting the ribbon to declare the care home officially open.
Southampton VIPs mingled with the Anchor team and future Mayflower Court residents before gathering at the entrance of the home to watch the ribbon cutting ceremony and celebrate with a slice of cake.
Opening Anchor’s newest care home, Charlie Dimmock said: "Care in later life is something we are all thinking about, as we know people are living longer and we need to plan for the future; Mayflower Court makes me think I could move in in the next few years!
"Many congratulations to all involved in getting Mayflower Court care home ready for its first residents - a combination of thoughtful design and passionate people make it a really wonderful development."
After her tour of the home, Mayor Cllr Linda Norris remarked: “Southampton has long needed a truly first-class care home, and I believe Mayflower Court fits the bill perfectly. I am overwhelmed by how big and bright the rooms are, and the professionalism and caring nature of the staff. I think residents will truly feel at home here.”
Howard Nankivell, Anchor’s Sales and Marketing Director, commented: “We are very pleased to be opening this luxurious care home in Southampton, and we look forward to becoming part of the local community.
