A Brackley couple has been shortlisted for a Best Neighbour award. Don and Jenny Guy, who live at Anchor’s Godwin Court on Halls Lane, were nominated by their neighbours for always going the extra mile to help.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Mr and Mrs Guy are thrilled to be shortlisted for the Best Neighbour Award. Don said: “We are over the moon to have been nominated. It is so important to have good neighbours. Jenny and I like to help others, even if it is just to be there with a cup of tea and a chat when someone needs a friend.”

Neighbour Sandra Preston, who is thankful for the help Don and Jenny give to her, said: “Don and Jenny go to 110% helping anybody that needs it. They are the best neighbours you could ask for.

“When my husband was admitted to hospital, they followed the ambulance at 4 in the morning to bring me home. Last Christmas, they brought me all my meals, took me to the hospital on Christmas Day to see my husband and then drove me all the way to Oxford every other day to see him.

“Everybody at Godwin Court loves them and thinks they deserve an award.”

A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
