A tenant from Dartford has been shortlisted for a Best Neighbour award. Cathy Bhayat, who lives at Anchor’s Turners Oak in New Ash Green, was nominated by six neighbours for always going the extra mile to help.
Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.
Mrs Bhayat is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Best Neighbour Award. She said: “I am over the moon to have been nominated – and by so many people, I’m blown away. It is important to have good neighbours. I like to help others, even if that is just being there with a cup of tea and a chat when someone needs a friend.”
Neighbour Andrew Boardman, who is thankful for how Cathy helps him and his wife Sandra, said: “Cathy is the most kind, helpful person I have met. She keeps people company when they are lonely, helps care for sick people, lends a hand whenever we have a bit of a social do in the lounge - nothing is too much trouble.”
Another neighbour, Shirley Hobart, said: “Cathy is a tower of strength. She never refuses a request for help and can deal with any situation, no matter how difficult or unpleasant – you can always rely on her. Without Cathy, Turners Oak would not be the place it is.”
Another neighbour, Margaret Churcher, added: “Cathy is the Best Neighbour anyone could hope for. She is small in height but big in heart.”
A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
