An Uxbridge pensioner has been shortlisted for a Best Neighbour award. Peter Edward, who lives at Anchor’s Courtney House on St Marys Road, was nominated by his neighbours for always going the extra mile to help.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Mr Edward is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Best Neighbour Award. He said: “I am really pleased to be up this award. It is important to have good neighbours. I like to support others, whether it is to be there with a cup of tea or to help with odd jobs.”

Neighbour Josie Brown, 90, who is thankful for the help Peter gives to her, said: “Peter is a really supportive neighbour, patient and kind - I really don’t know what I would do without his support.

“I’m not computer literate and he has taught me basic IT skills. Even now, when I get stuck he lends his expertise. He always gives up his time to help out.”

A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
