Tenants from Newbury have been highly commended for a Carer of the Year award. Ken and Vig Bellamy, who live at Anchor’s Lambourn Court in Walton Way, were nominated by Peter Twinam for tirelessly caring for their neighbours.
Over 600 nominations were sent in for Anchor’s Happy Living Awards for those who live with Anchor who is England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in May 2014 with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Silver Surfer, Best Grandparent, Community Champion and Carer of the Year.
Mr and Mrs Bellamy, who have lived at Lambourn Court for seven years, are thrilled to be highly commended the Carer category. Ken, 85, said: “I am over the moon that Peter has nominated me and my wife. I like to help those who are less able as I would hope others would do the same when I am less able, and my wife really enjoys caring for others, whether that is picking up prescriptions or cooking meals.”
Neighbour Peter Twinam, 89, who is thankful for the help Mr and Mrs Bellamy give to him, said: “Mr and Mrs Bellamy deserve to win the Carer of the Year Award because for as long as I have lived at Lambourn Court, they have been the very best of neighbours.
“Mr and Mrs Bellamy run the bingo every Tuesday evening and Thursday afternoon, which everyone at Lambourn Court enjoys. Ken also delivers my newspaper every day and helps me get to my appointments at the doctor or the dentist.
“The Bellamys consider everyone at Lambourn Court a close friend and support many people here – anything at all they can do to help, they will.”
A customer panel will be coming together this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced at the end of January.
