Residents and staff at St Anne’s care home in Saltash eagerly awaited the arrival of some baby chicks with egg-citement as part of their summer activity schedule.

An incubator and eggs were supplied to the home by Drake’s View Small Holdings in Plymstock. The eggs were ready to hatch when they were delivered so the staff and residents just had to be patient.

Marta Broyd, Care Home Manger at St Anne’s said: “Some of our residents, being from the local area, lived and worked farmland and this brought back some wonderful childhood memories. This activity is a really important part of keeping those memories alive.”

Residents were delighted to see 3 eggs hatch and have enjoyed the happy chirping and egg-citement that the chicks have been providing ever since.

Resident Mrs Page said: “I have never seen such a beautiful thing or chicks so young. How wonderful!”

Resident Mrs Kessell, pictured in the photograph holding a chick said she really enjoyed holding the new born birds.

St Anne’s would like to thank all involved who made this project most enjoyable.
