A care home in Buttershaw has been classed as ‘good’ overall and ‘outstanding’ in effectiveness of service by regulator Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Staff at Anchor’s Springfield care home in Western Way were celebrating this week after receiving the accolade.
The care home was praised by the CQC under their new robust inspection process.
Care homes and retirement properties are now classed as either outstanding, good, requiring improvement or inadequate.
Springfield Manager Vicki Hemsworth said everyone at the care home was thrilled because they had worked so hard to maintain high standards of care.
She said: “We all know Springfield is a great place for older people to live but to be given such praise from the regulator is outstanding.
“We are proud of the care we provide, of the meals which are made from fresh seasonal ingredients and of the wide variety of meaningful activities enjoyed by our residents.
“Anchor has informed the Government’s dementia strategy so we also know how to care for people living with the condition so they lead as fulfilling a life as possible.
“We welcome such rigorous inspections and clear ratings so older people and their families can see which homes or retirement properties are the best in the country. We’re so pleased to be classed as a good care home that we’re holding a party to celebrate this success.”
The CQC inspection report, which can be found on the regulator’s website, highlighted the following examples of high standards of care at Springfield: “The home had used creative methods to promote and ensure good nutrition and hydration amongst people who used the service. People had access to an excellent choice of food throughout the day.
“The service had strong links with external health professionals and used their advice to further improve the effectiveness of the service. Health professionals all provided excellent feedback about the quality of the service.”
Resident Irene Parr, 86, who has lived at Springfield for 1 year, said: “It was no surprise to me that Springfield was classed as good. I love living here because of the entertainment they provide, both in and out of the home. I look forward every week to our vintage tea party - the cakes are amazing and are all homemade.
“The kitchen staff are excellent as well. They come and ask me every day what I would like to eat and there is so much choice.”
