20 residents at Abbeywood and other guests attended an hour-long Blue Monday session at Abbeywood care home in Wharf Road where guest speaker was Fiona Cambell, a specialist mental health adviser at First Steps.

Ms Campbell led the group in a general discussion about emotional wellbeing, as well as pointing out the signs that might lead to feelings of isolation and depression.

Ms Campbell said: ' We want to get across that feeling lonely in old age is not neccessary or inevitable. There are lots of things that people can do to keep themselves engages and active, such as finding ways to use the skills they have from when they were younger'. This discussion prompted people to give each other tips.

Ando Ho, Activities Co-ordinator at Abbeywood said: ' Blue Monday was the ideal time to bring to surface problems that many people deal with privately'.
