Tenants who form the Beamish Court gardening group have been awarded the 1st prize in the Public Spaces category for Stanley Town Council’s gardening competition, Blooming Good Fun 2015.

Over the summer the gardening group transformed the retirement property’s small garden with an abundance of colourful plants, even decorating the building’s walls with hanging baskets full of bright flowers. They have ensured the plants remain healthy and looking their best and the garden has been greatly enjoyed by tenants, neighbours and passers-by.

Beamish Court were awarded a commemorative plaque and a cash prize at a ceremony in Stanley Civic Hall. The gardening group are looking forward to entering the competition again next year and have already put up their Autumn/Winter hanging baskets.

Barbara Webb, Scheme Manager at Beamish Court said “It is wonderful when tenants take so much pride in the building, creating a beautiful garden - not only for other tenants but also for the wider community to enjoy looking at.”
