A Heywood pensioner has been shortlisted for a Community Champion award.

Teresa Gibbons, who lives at Anchor’s Bridgewood Lodge in Margaret Street, was nominated by her retirement housing scheme manager Janet Murray for always going the extra mile helping her community.

Almost 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

Teresa Gibbons is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Community Champion Award. She said: “I am over the moon to have been nominated. It is important to have a good community spirit. I like organising activities for Bridgewood Lodge and the local community to get involved in.”

Anchor’s scheme manager Janet Murray, who appreciates the difference Teresa makes to her community, said: “Teresa is a real star, a true people person and leader, always organising social events for the other tenants to get involved in.

“She also talks to the local council on behalf of her neighbours to try and improve services in the area, like asking for a better bus shelter. Teresa is an asset to Bridgewood Lodge.”

A customer panel will be coming together later this month to judge those shortlisted, and winners of the six categories will be announced in December.
