A tenant from Kent has been highly commended for a Community Champion award. Patricia Lander, who lives at Anchor’s Old Parsonage Court in West Malling, was nominated by Jean Scown for always going the extra mile helping her community.

Over 600 nominations were sent in for Anchor’s Happy Living Awards for those who live with Anchor who is England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in May 2014 with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Silver Surfer, Best Grandparent, Community Champion and Carer of the Year.

Patricia Lander, who has lived at Old Parsonage Court for more than 15 years, is thrilled to be highly commended in the Community Champion category. She said: “I am over the moon to have been nominated by Jean. It is important to have a good community spirit. I like to help the community organising trips and activities for Old Parsonage Court and the local community to get involved in.”

Neighbour Jean Scown, who is thankful for the help Patricia gives to her, said: “Pat is a real champion, always planning something fun for us all to get involved in.

“As Old Parsonage Court’s social secretary, she organises a whole variety of interesting activities such as a monthly book club and bridge parties.

“This often involves a huge amount of work, collecting and returning dozens of books from the library each month, but Pat is always more than happy to help.

“She also arranges trips out for lunch, booking special transport for any interested tenants and negotiating a good deal with the restaurant.

“Pam really goes out of her way to make sure everyone at Old Parsonage Court has things in the calendar to look forward to.”
A customer panel came together before Christmas to judge those nominated, and winners of the six categories will be announced at the end of January.
