A tenant from Brackley has been highly commended for a Community Champion award. Jennifer Guy, 76, who lives at Anchor’s Godwin Court in Haws Lane with her husband Don, was nominated by Stella Taplin for always going the extra mile helping her community.

Over 600 nominations were sent in for Anchor’s Happy Living Awards for those who live with Anchor who is England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in May 2014 with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Silver Surfer, Best Grandparent, Community Champion and Carer of the Year.

Jennifer Guy, who has lived at Godwin Court for three years, is thrilled to be highly commended in the Community Champion category. She said: “I am over the moon to have been nominated by Stella. It is important to have a good community spirit. Don and I both like to help the community organising trips and activities for Godwin Court and the local community to get involved in.”

Neighbour Stella Taplin, 84, who is thankful for the help Jennifer gives to her, said: “Jenny makes so much difference to everyone at Godwin Court – she is a real community champion, always organising something for us all to get involved in.

“Jenny and her husband Don give up their time so freely organising fun things for us to do. In the summer, we had a mad hatter’s tea party and a barbecue all within a few weeks; Jenny and Don went to great lengths to make the events enjoyable and successful.

“Jenny is so generous, always going out of her way to put a smile on people’s faces, and I feel she deserves special recognition for her kindness.”

A customer panel came together before Christmas to judge those nominated, and winners of the six categories were announced at the end of January.
