A tenant from Ruislip has been highly commended for a Community Champion award. Breda Harte, 63, who lives at Anchor’s Barringers Court in Neats Acre, was nominated by Pearl Groves for always going the extra mile helping her community.
Over 600 nominations were sent in for Anchor’s Happy Living Awards for those who live with Anchor who is England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in May 2014 with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Silver Surfer, Best Grandparent, Community Champion and Carer of the Year.
Breda Harte, who has lived at Barringers Court for almost five years, is thrilled to be highly commended in the Community Champion category. She said: “I am over the moon to have been nominated by Pearl. It is important to have a good community spirit. I like to help the community organising trips and activities for Barringers Court and the local community to get involved in.”
Neighbour Pearl Groves, 86, who is thankful for the help Breda gives to her, said: “Breda always goes out of her way for everyone at Barringers Court, arranging outings and supporting people with little kind gestures.
“Breda runs bingo every week and is always organising birthday parties, suppers and trips out for lunch or to see a show. She even does a trip down the coast twice a year, so we can all go to the seaside.
“Even though she’s often not feeling very well, she will be there to give you help and advice any time of the day or night; Breda deserves a medal.”
A customer panel came together before Christmas to judge those nominated, and winners of the six categories were announced at the end of January.
