HOUSING FOR OLDER PEOPLE IN EUROPE THE HOPE NETWORKObjectives Anchor Trust is a member of the HOPE Network, a group of leading European social housing providers and co-operatives. The Network was established in 1993 following the European Year of Older People and Solidarity between the Generations. The aim of the Network is to find people-centred solutions in housing and care practices for older people. In the past, HOPE has provided research, advice and guidance to policy makers, purchasers and providers of housing and care services at a national and European level. It also aims to highlight the development of housing and services, which are part of a local solution; are sustainable and cost effective; and respond to the needs of older people now and in the future. ObjectivesThe HOPE Steering Group meet to review and direct the work programme once a year. Its objectives are to: • develop shared understanding and exchange information on services • use the practical experience of HOPE Members to raise the national and European profile on issues and solutions around housing, care and support for older people • develop good practice and leadership on standards on social housing and related services • act as a resource to other providers of services and government bodies • explore the possibility of joint working between HOPE Members ValuesThe shared values of HOPE Network Members are that services should: • be people centred • aim to create diversity in service provision • be based on existing housing as well as new developments • encourage participation and involvement • provide models of partnership at a local level • offer quality and flexibility in service provision • emphasise the preventative role of housing and services • create opportunities for older people to chose to move in time • be forward thinking and challenge the traditional provision of housing HOPE PublicationsAnchor has contributed to the work of the HOPE network by publishing reports on some of the issues around housing, care and support of older people from a European perspective.
