Anchor has been shortlisted for a prestigious award - in recognition of our success in achieving substantial savings for customers on their gas and electricity bills.

Anchor has reached the final stage of the Energy Buyer of the Year category of the Energy Awards 2012 – with the winner to be announced at a ceremony in London on Wednesday 5 December.

The award recognises an organisation’s ability to devise and implement a purchasing strategy which manages energy prices in a controllable manner, while achieving below budget costs for gas and electricity procurement.

Kirstie Johnson, Anchor’s Head of Energy Management, said: “With 1,600 electricity and 800 gas meters at our locations, buying gas and electricity for Anchor is a continuous challenge, but we’ve investigated all the different purchasing options available and found that buying energy on a flexible contract gives us the best opportunity to reduce costs for our customers.

“Through this process, we’ve been able to buy gas and electricity at rates substantially lower rates than those quoted by the Office of National Statistics – equating to an average saving during 2011 of £146.40 per customer.

“It is brilliant that our work has been recognised in an area where not-for-profit organisations rarely feature. It shows that through good teamwork, we are focusing on the things that matter to our customers.”
