Supporters of Anchor’s petition explain why they are backing Grey Pride in a series of video interviews.
Following 137,000 people signing Anchor’s Grey Pride petition, a delegation went to 10 Downing Street on Monday 28 November to formally call for a Minister for Older People.
Some of the campaign supporters who went along, including Anchor staff and customers, gave interviews to help raise awareness and press home the urgent need to ensure older people’s issues are given higher priority.
Older people’s campaigner Esther Rantzen, and the Shadow Minister for Care and Older People Liz Kendall MP, were amongst those to share their thoughts on the need for a dedicated Minister for Older People, stressing the need for joined-up thinking.
Other campaigners including the Anchor staff and customers who have been out gathering signatures, explained why they are backing Grey Pride and how they found public support for our cause.
On the video Anchor’s Chief Executive Jane Ashcroft discusses the need to for older people to have a voice and to be put at the heart of government decision making.
You can watch the video on the Grey Pride community website or on YouTube.
Anchor’s Grey Pride petition has put the call for an Older People’s Minister firmly on the Prime Minister’s agenda.
The campaign has achieved a lot so far; Labour leader Ed Miliband has already appointed a Shadow Minister for Care and Older People; Baroness Joan Bakewell has called for the government to appoint an independent commissioner to champion older people’s interests and our campaign has the backing of 20 leading organisations.
